I replaced the Capacitor on my central air Kenmore TCA236AKA4 with this little gem! Since I couldn't find the original ICP Central Air Conditioner Run Capacitor 1086644. This one works better then OEM!

She is a 50+5 MFD 440V. In lame mans terms 50 Microfarad for the Compressor, 5 Microfarad for the Fan, and 440V (even though my old capacitor was 370V you can also go up, just not down in voltage in capacitors).

Turn the power off (completely, this means the big 220v to your A/C Confessor and shutting the cooling system off inside also)! De energize the existing capacitor, it will shock you! Take Pictures and or wiring diagrams and unplug the wires one at a time. Watch video's before you dive in!

I had a capacitor tester and tested my original capacitor bad LOW on the CAPACITOR (HERM). So it was worth replacing, while I was replacing a broken fan motor, broken hard start, and unknown control panel.

I put all brand new parts in the outdoor condenser by myself saved myself thousand(s) and she runs like a dream!
After searching online for answers on how to repair a non-op condenser, I eventually learned that AC condensers whose fans fail to spin are most probably suffering from a spent start capacitor. I wasted money, time and effort replacing the fan motor, only find that the new fan didn't spin any more than the old one. Fortunately, I didn't spend too much on the motor, but it left me scratching my head. I was frightened by the capacitor, because electrics just... frighten me. But watching a video on the subject allayed my fears, and two days later my replacement capacitor arrived. In less than 30 minutes I had the old one out and the new one in. The condenser fired right up the first time, the fan spun beautifully, and I solved a multi-hundred dollar service call for $12.95. I am very happy to've solved my own problem, and actually ordered two capacitors to be prepared for when my second condenser fails, which it surely will, and most likely on a Saturday morning in summer while at the beginning of a 3-day weekend. Job well done :-)
Physically, it was shorter and fatter than the original. but the most important was that was as expected--50-5 micro farads--it just made me have to drill another screw hole to install it which was not a problem,

On a side note, I left my gate open as usual when I am expecting a delivery, and the delivery person drives up my driveway, but this delivery, the driver left it at my open gate; again not a problem since nobody stole it except that I did not look for it at the gate until I logged onto Amazon and saw it had been delivered; most deliveries I get, I get an e-mail or text which I see immediately, but not this time.
When my A/C stopped working, I panicked. Of course, the immediate thought was "Great! Where am I going to come up with $5k+ for a new A/C condenser?!?" After doing some research, though, I discovered that the problem was likely the capacitor. I looked at it, and sure enough, it was bulging. I ordered this little beauty after double checking the specifications (original was a trane CPT00660) because it was the only one that could reach me in one day.
When I got the capacitor, I triple checked the specs to make sure it matched my original, then easily installed it in my A/C unit. It took slight modification of the metal strap that secures the capacitor, as this one was slightly smaller in circumference than the original, but with a single drilled hole and a bit of metal bending, I got it installed securely.
At this point, my A/C fired right up and is now working like a charm!
Thanks for all the previous reviews. We ordered this capacitor with Amazon Prime and it arrived the next day.. Super easy to install. It came with no instruction, but the color codes for the capacitor is on the inside of the AC panel.
An reputable AC company that has served us for many years wanted $198 for the replacement of this capacitor!!!

It is really pointless note but caps are rarely have very accurate value, and does not need to be. +/-20% would be perfectly fine.

It is just interesting that I've measured values of only 1 or 2 % off. This is beyond need but maybe an indication of tight manufacturing quality process control.

It is shorter than original/old cap with exactly the same specs. Diameter is the same though.

Working fine, no issues at all. Previous cap lasted about 7 years. Will see about this one.
Arrived in less than 24 hours and fixed our A/C problem. Neither fan or compressor was running. I spun the fan by hand and it ran, so I figured it might be the starter capacitor. Installed in about five minutes. Had to wrap some electrical tape around the body since it's a little thinner than the original, and the clamp didn't hold it tightly. My wife was very happy, and I'm her hero. I'm sure it saved quite a bit over a service call.
The fan on my a/c unit stopped spinning, but I could hear the motor buzzing, as if it wanted to spin. My furnace/blower was working, but no cool air because the unit was not working. I checked the capacitor and it looked as if it was shot. So, I went online to see where I could find one. It was a holiday weekend, so all HVAC stores were shuttered. Surprisingly, Amazon had capacitors available for next day delivery. For under $20 I decided to make the purchase. It arrived as expected. I took great care when removing the old capacitor - shutting off all electricity to the unit - and replaced it with the new capacitor. The whole process took less than ten minutes. After all of the connections were in place and the electricity was flowing, we turned the thermostat on and the unit kicked in - just like new!!! Within a matter of minutes, the upstairs began cooling down. Maybe the best purchase I’ve ever made, especially since it was the hottest weekend on record in LA! This was a big DIY Win!!!
