MAXRUN 35+5 MFD uf 370 or 440 Volt VAC Round Dual Run Capacitor for Air Conditioner or Heat Pump - Runs AC Motor and Fan – 5 Year Warranty: Industrial & Scientific
My central air conditioner went down and it sucks noone in my city carry these, but one place did, but I have to be a contractor to buy. Really.. I'm an automation technician. Trouble shooting an air conditioner is a piece of cake compared to what I do. I could of had it up and running in a hour. Instead I was stuck without air on July, 4 three day weekend over 90 degrees temperatures. Most electrical stores are lost because of CV19. Lowe's and Home depot didn't have them and it would take over a week to get it from those stores. Amazon took three days. Amazon saved the day again. It's a very common part that fails. You would think Lowe's or Home Depot would carry these.
of coarse my ac went out sat night 9/5/20 during the hottest week of the year. 112F. sun am i went to home depot , calif regulations they dont carry capacitors....no ones available to come out its holiday 3 day weekend. electician in the electric section reminded me best chance is to order on amazon prime immediately so i have good chance to get the capacitor by monday 2 day shipping.... so glad i did so and am a prime member, its monday now 330pm 95f and house is cool 78f. without amazon prime dedicated employees , drivers i still have to wait till tomorrow tuesday anotehr hot 90f in house take time off work to go to local electrical outfitter for the part. and hopefully they carry it....btw this time i bought 2 1 spare back up. easy to connct. make sure you pull the fuse pwr disconnect. red wire on common marked c on cap, blk wire to fan marked on cap, brown wire on herm marked on cap. this cap is a dual capacitor runs both the fan motor and the compressor. after connecting the 3 wires to the cap reconnect pwer and adj the thermostat.... the part works great easy to install, again double make sure your pwr is off......and again thank you amazon for being their.....
I purchased this to replace my original capacitor which was no longer able to start the fan. All was well for a couple months and suddenly the compressor would not start. The side of this capacitor that starts the compressor is dead but the other half can still start the fan. I have verified this is the correct rating for my A/C unit and it was also the same as the one I replaced. I knew I should have bought a better quality capacitor but this was cheap and I was in a hurry. Replaced with a GE and hoping for the best.
Our A/C went out on the hottest day - which is usually when capacitors go out from environmental stress. So the old "of course my A/C went out on the hottest day of the year" is actually true in many cases. If you are not comfortable working with high voltage and don't know the purpose of a capacitor, don't even think of doing an A/C repair yourself. Your life is worth a lot more than trying to save a few dollars doing a DIY repair. Realize that a capacitor stores charge even when disconnected from power. So, if you are trying to replace a capacitor yourself make sure you know how to short it correctly across the common-fan and common-herm terminals. With that being said, it is an easy repair and this product works exactly as intended. Thank God this came next day and worked just like the OEM capacitor. Hopefully longevity is good. If not it was $15 and we can purchase another 6 or more and still not hit the cost of an HVAC tech coming out. I will buy this again if needed.
This capacitor is great. It's well made and works as expected. The old cap was puffed up at the terminal plate so the diagnosis was easy, and the compressor windings were all normal when checked.. Shipping time was excellent and the repair was a success.
My unit only needed the hermetic cap, but the extra terminal on this part for fan doesn't have to be used.
This cap has a plastic label which should be legible when/if it eventually needs to be replaced. The old part info was printed on the can and was difficult to read. My 2.5 ton heat pump r-22 240v required 35 mfd. The unit also has a hard-start capacitor but it was ok.
Unit is a 34 year old Magic Chef and still runs great.

Description
SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE MAXRUN 35/5 MFD 370/440 VOLT CAPACITOR
This Capacitor is rated for 440 Volts which means it will work at 370 or 440 VAC. A dual run capacitor, such as this 35/5, combines two capacitors into one unit. It will power a compressor motor and a fan motor, and has three terminals on the top. They are labeled "Herm" for the compressor motor, "Fan" for the fan, and "C" for the common line.
The capacitor is 2" in diameter by 4.125" in height and will run from -40 C. to +70 C. It is safety rated at 10,000 AFC.
Run Capacitors work hand in hand with Electric Motors that power the compressors and condensers that make air conditioning work. For this purpose, the Capacitor works the same way as a battery. It stores and releases a large charge very quickly. This released charge gives the motor the spin it needs to start and run correctly.
As Air Conditioning Capacitors age, they lose their ability to hold a charge and get weaker.
As the capacitor gets older, the motor may get louder and seem to run slower. If replaced before they get weaker, its possible to lengthen the life of the motor. Eventually, the capacitor will get too weak to start the motor and if the motor can't start, it can short out. Timely replacement of the capacitor is essential to Air Conditioning Maintenance.
SAFETY TIPS FOR REPLACEMENT
When replacing a capacitor always be sure to turn off the power to the air conditioning unit and place a screw driver between the terminals of the capacitor to release any stored charge. MaxRun Capacitors are designed to be the correct fit, but it's best to measure the height and width of the capacitor to double check that the replacement unit matches the original. We also recommend keeping a spare so you have one handy when it's needed.
This worked for my problem. Found my fan wasn't able to start spinning on its own. I would just creep an inch or so before stopping again. I did some research and found that the capacitor might be the problem. Bought it, replaced it, and it worked. Fan spins up and AC is now blowing cold.
I'm not AC certified, but this was an easy replacement. I just followed safety procedures and had the job done in minutes.
The box containing the "New" product and been violated. The top lid had been torn open prior.
That alone raised my suspicion as to the quality of the so called new product. But I forged ahead
hoping for the best. So I overlooked that detail and plugged it into my AC unit anyways. Then
poof a puff of smoke went up as the capacitor failed in spectacular fashion. That figures. So maybe I was
given a faulty one or a returned one? (Edited 6/5/2020) Ok All well ends well. The vendor reached out to me and refunded my money. That was very honest and caring for the customer. For that I turned my 1 star rating to a 4 star rating upon the integrity of the vendor. Maybe it was just an aberration, an anomaly. Everyone has them every now and then.
My 30-year old Payne central A/C condenser unit stopped functioning on day 1 of a triple-digit heat wave. After noticing a bulging start-run capacitor, and determining that the fan motor was still functional, it was obvious that the capacitor had died. Thanks to MAXRUN, determining the correct replacement part was a matter of a 3-min search on Amazon. The part arrived in 2 days and took all of 5 minutest to install. Voila - I had A/C once again. Thanks, MAXRUN!
