I don't know what it is about A/C units going out on a long hot weekend but that is what happened to use over Memorial Day. Mine was working overtime as we had a large party and by the end of the day, the fan on the condensor unit outside was running but the condensor most definitely was not. Test that the latching relay was working fine so that left the dual run capacitor as the most likely culprit. Having owned a few homes and paid overpriced A/C guys to fix it on a weekend, I know there was a cheaper option. Parts store was closed until Tuesday so I gave Amazon a shot and wouldn't you know they had the right size with next day delivery. Worked like a champ and while I can't give it 5 stars for longevity until I run it for a few months, I will say the $18 price point was great. I bought 2 so I have a spare handy the next time it fails.
After seeing my invoice for the last one that went out of over $300 and the part at over $100 I decided with my limited skills to tackle the repair as my a/c was blowing hot, the outside unit was not on and the breaker was blowing. I figured I would start with the cheapest thing that research said it could be. This part fit perfectly, and the only confusion was that the old one here in FL was so rusted on the top it was hard to figure out the stamped letters for the wiring, but finally got it! Only 3 wires to change, and key is to go one by one from old to new. Works perfect now and best $18 I ever spent!
I had my HVAC serviced recently and they said the run capacitor was low on the fan end, they wanted to charge me $330 to replace it. I found this one online which is an exact match for what's inside my outdoor unit and swapped over the 4 wires myself. For reference i live in AZ and apparently the capacitors go bad here relatively quickly. Swap was quick and easy, then I fired up my AC with no trouble at all, I can't speak to it's longevity yet but hoping it lasts at least 5 years.
Got tired of starting my AC fan with a stick. Looked for a comparable replacement cap and found this inexpensive option. Surprisingly, it is the same cap I had. Works great.
