Our house was getting way too hot with the A/C on. We had a professional HVAC guy com look at it. He cleaned the blower vanes and furnace housing, vacuumed the condenser and replaced the filter...all for ~$150. When he was done we told him that the airflow was still much weaker than before, but he said everything was working good and maybe we needed our ducts cleaned. I checked the ducts as best I could and found them unblocked. After a little research (actually a lot of research) I read where the "motor run capacitor" on an HVAC blower can go bad and result in the blower motor running substantially slower than usual. I invested a little over $8 in this capacitor, installed it and everything is back to normal...I'm comfortable while my wife is freezing. This coming winter I'll be broiling while she's comfortable so it all works out in the end...
$7.18 to easily fix a problem that a heating and air company would have charged hundreds. I saw on online video that said if your AC fan is not running, then to poke it with a stick to get the fan turning. It it continues to run, then it is the capacitor that starts the fan motor. Ordered this replacement capacitor and it was an exact replacement. Easy fix.
Careful, capacitors can shock you so discharge them properly before touching leads.
WARNING: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK THE SORT THAT MAY CAUSE DEATH!
Yes this is a large capacitor for starting an electric motor. It works as a direct replacement in my case for when I replaced a HVAC blower motor. Thought it was a good idea to replace an ageing capacitor at the same time. No problems. Should probably say for those that do not know. This is one of those capacitors you do not want to touch an energised one. If you do not know what you are doing with electricity please hire an electrician or HVAC certified person depending on your use case. Just think that this capacitor is outputting enough power to start and electric motor that cannot start by mains electricity alone. You have been warned.
My easy to install rating is my experience not to be taken as anyone should attempt this as for the reasons stated above I do not think a person that knows nothing about capacitors and high voltage and current electricity should touch this one.
Attic fan started pulling a lot less air and it would gradually get slower and slower after turning it on. After a bit of research, symptoms pointed to a bad run capacitor so I climbed up, pulled out the old GE branded capacitor and ordered this replacement, exact same specs and model number. Now it's runnin' like a champ again!
The important things are the voltage rating, capacitance, and physical dimensions(if you are reusing the OEM bracket). In other words, buying the right spec is more important than the brand name. My HVAC blower motor start capacitor was flaking out... hadn’t failed but was causing motor heating issues. The smell was the tip-off. We caught it before the capacitor failed completely or the motor failed. This replacement did the trick and we received it via Prime over the weekend. AC working perfectly.

Description
GE Genteq Capacitor Oval 7. 5 uf MFD 370 volt 27L566, 27L566S (replaces old GE# 97F9001, Z97F9001, 97F9001BX & 27L566BZ3, HC91CA007), 7. 5 MFD at 370 volts
Our A/C went out right before a nice muggy hot spell. I'm no HVAC tech but I was able to trace the most likely cause to a failed start capacitor on the blower motor. In our case (an oil burner setup, with a/c coils below, blower above all), a little disassembly was required to pull out the blower and test it properly. Not too tough though. The capacitor a a very simple switch out, it's attached to the blower housing not the motor itself, and has just two quick connect wires. Tested it with an extension cord and scrap wire leads (worked, yay!) before putting it all back together and enjoying cool air again. Glad when I can fix such a vital item myself and for such a small cost.
Update: 2 Items 1 paint marks on top of capacitors denote high and low tolerance band on parts. White dots means low tolerance parts which is what I have received on last order. This means capacitance is on the lower half of the tolerance band. While they work they also should be sold at a reduced price because they have less useful life in them. 2 I have switched to another brand because of this. Look in the photos Yellow dots are high tolerance band parts that would have a longer life or longer useful life to me. If you want to change out parts more often use the white dot ones but climbing in a hot attic to change them out is not fun and left in too long when capacitance value gets too low runs the risk of overheating the blower motor and damaging it. So far so good it's been installed for a month plus and working great. This was purchased for a Goodman air handler blower motor replacement and the original that was in since 2005 was made by GE and I believe that GE sould this off to Genteq? Anyway this one and the GE branded one with same blue and white label both say made in Mexico. Had a recent lightning strike in the neighborhood and noticed blower air stream was very low after that.... Took me a few days to check the blower motor cap and sure enough the 7.5 uF was measuring about 6.6 or so and put this Genteq in that measured 7.5 uF and blower airstream is back to normal again. Ordered another one as a spare so I'll be prepared for any future problems. Be safe and informed on how to replace these yourself or if you are not comfortable with that seek out the help of a qualified person to do that for you. Point is they should be checked and replaced when needed because they can contribute to a decreased life of the blower motor, less cooling,
etc. when they go bad.
Not sure why these are labeled as Gentrec instead of GE? Was a bit apprehensive purchasing this at first. These are rated the same uf but are shorter. Will measure the capacitance after a year and report back.
Edit: 1/21/18
Furnace motor makes a humming noise upon startup. Found out capacitor is not within specs after one month testing with a multi-meter. Replacement sent. Thank you Amazon.
