MAXRUN 45+5 MFD uf 370 or 440 Volt VAC Round Dual Run Capacitor for Air Conditioner or Heat Pump Condenser - 45/5 Microfarad - Runs AC Motor and Fan - 5 Year Warranty: Industrial & Scientific
Worked perfect for me. AC has been back up and running for about a week now. These start/run capacitors seem to last about 7 years or so. This is the second one I've replaced. DIY Tips: remove all power from AC unit by pulling circuit breaker. Turn thermostat off so it's not calling for cool air (this would send voltage to the unit). take a couple pics on your phone of the wiring on the failed capacitor before removing. Use a screwdriver with a good insulating handle, double check the capacitor is discharged by making contact between the three different terminals on the capacitor. The terminals are marked C (Common/Ground), Fan, and Herm (Compressor). Disconnect the capacitor from the AC unit. If you have a good multimeter you can check if the existing capacitor (or even the new one) is good or not. Use the uF setting and put the black lead on C, red lead on Herm. It should read 45 (for this capacitor anyway since it's a 45+5). To test if the Fan portion of the capacitor works, black lead on C, red lead on Fan, should read 5. My bad cap was reading 0+1, instead of 45+5!
AC unit blowing cold air one day and the next it doesn’t. YouTube’d bunch of videos and googled a bunch info. I tried cleaning the coils/condenser inside out, changed air filter, reset thermostat, and some other stuff but just wouldn’t blow cold air. Little hesitant to change out capacitor because I didn’t want to get shocked or whatever. It was my last shot before I call in the pros. I found this exact match and purchased it. Luckily it arrived the next day. So 2 days total with no ac in 90+ degree summer was not fun. Capacitor came with no damage and I swear it was like Christmas when USPS dropped it off and I installed it in maybe 5 minutes. Keep in mind I’m no contractor but a DIYer. Turned the ac on and I danced around like a school girl excited it’s blowing cool air once again. Save yourself several hundred dollars and do it yourself or have a knowledgeable friend help you out. I recommend this capacitor/item.
Fixed my ac unit.
My AC unit's blower and the outside fan both worked, but the air coming out of the vents wasn't cold, so it was either the capacitor or the compressor. Since 90% of the time its the capacitor, and at $15 with next day delivery, I figured it was worth a try. It worked, and saved me the cost of an AC repair guy (about $120 to $150).
NOTE: This is easy to do, but be SAFE. Watch several Youtube videos before you try to replace it, and make sure you cut the power to the AC unit and then ground out the capacitor properly before removing it.
My capacitor on my AC unit went out right in the middle of the hottest week of the year. The compressor was running but the fan would not spin unless i bumped it with a stick. This replacement came the next day and and was very easy to install. AC unit was back to normal as soon as I switched it back on.
I thought the price was too good to be true and it was. I don't know why capacitors only last about 2 years, but that's what I expect so I usually have extras on the side for when one stops working. Unfortunately, these capacitors only lasted about 4 weeks in the Texas heat of Summer. I suggest you do not use these on an A/C unit, not sure where to use them really. Buyer beware, they are cheap and will not last a long time.

Description
SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE MAXRUN 45/5 MFD 370/440 VOLT CAPACITOR
The capacitor is 2 3/8" in diameter by 4" in height - Please check your specifications carefully.
This Capacitor is rated for 440 Volts which means it will work at 370 or 440 VAC. It will also run from -40 C. to +70 C. It is safety rated at 10,000 AFC.
A dual run capacitor, such as this 45/5, combines two capacitors into one unit. It will power a compressor motor and a fan motor, and has three terminals on the top. They are labeled "Herm" for the compressor motor, "Fan" for the fan, and "C" for the common line.
Run Capacitors work hand in hand with Electric Motors that power the compressors and condensers that make air conditioning work. For this purpose, the Capacitor works the same way as a battery. It stores and releases a large charge very quickly. This released charge gives the motor the spin it needs to start and run correctly.
As Air Conditioning Capacitors age, they lose their ability to hold a charge and get weaker.
As the capacitor gets older, the motor may get louder and seem to run slower. If replaced before they get weaker, its possible to lengthen the life of the motor. Eventually, the capacitor will get too weak to start the motor and if the motor can't start, it can short out. Timely replacement of the capacitor is essential to Air Conditioning Maintenance.
SAFETY TIPS FOR REPLACEMENT
When replacing a capacitor always be sure to turn off the power to the air conditioning unit and place a screw driver between the terminals of the capacitor to release any stored charge. MaxRun Capacitors are designed to be the correct fit, but it's best to measure the height and width of the capacitor to double check that the replacement unit matches the original. We also recommend keeping a spare so you have one handy when it's needed.
It's so humid in my house and we couldn't wait
until it was delivered. We went to the store came home box was on the porch. We were happy to finally be able to cool down our house. Hell yeah ! Figured I would grab the multi meter just to check it and SMFH NOPE ! This capacitor that came is defective and will not read on the meter. I crossed fingers and installed it anyway and nothing . So yeah really disapointing. I don't even wanna go through sending it back. I ordered another one but from G. E.
I purchased this cap as a spare as the tech suggested I have one on hand & change it out myself .
My only complaint is the labeling on it , as not seeing which one goes where . I have a cap tester , so I was able to figure out which terminals were which . Suggest seller put a installation sheet in the package , or labeling better..
My A/C went out... so I quickly ordered this as a replacement. Fit perfectly in the bracket. This is the wider size which I need. There are plenty of videos out there showing you how to test your capacitor to see if it went bad. Mine went bad on the compressor side (HERM side) so this was a perfect replacement to fix it.
I got it quick and this has a warranty... so I feel confident it will hold up. Saved me a ton doing it myself and it was such an easy fix too.
