--My outside Bryant/Carrier Condenser Fan was humming (9 years old), but not spinning,
compressor was also off at same time.
TURN off the electrical breaker to the Condenser Unit.

Remove access cover (5-6 screws) If Capacitor is bulging at top it's dead.

--Take a couple of clear phone pictures for wiring.

Reconfirm electric is still off, discharge Capacitor with insulated needle nosed pliars by touching each
contact with the other, repeat full circle, then repeat pliar contact with each contact on casing of Capacitor.

Now you can safely remove slide-on connectors with pliers.

Use your phone pic to make sure you reconnect new unit correctly.

Be careful, reassemble and save $240+
AC was blowing air but not cold air. Noticed that the compressor fan in the outside unit was not spinning on my Carrier unit that was installed 6 years ago.. The capacitor didn't look abnormal no bulges on the top which can be a sign the capacitor is bad. So I went ahead and ordered this part and installed it and compressor fan works again and AC is blowing cold air. Make sure you disconnect the power to the outside unit before replacing the capacitor. The disconnect should be behind the unit on the wall. Also make sure the thermostat is turned to the off setting. Lastly the connectors on the old capacitor should be grounded to release any built up energy in it. To do that get a screwdriver and touch the common lead to the herms lead and the common lead to the fan lead. This should dissipate any charge in the capacitor. Also if the compressor fan is not spinning and you need AC until the part gets delivered get a crow bar or something that can fit in between the grill on top of the unit and manually spin the fan blades clockwise or counterclockwise depending on the brand and it should have enough to start on its own and you will have AC until part gets delivered. Of course every time the AC shuts off you will have to repeat the procedure.
Changing capacitors cost 160 from my local AC pros. I decided to do it myself and save some. It is not difficult. Just be careful to make sure all electricity is off while you do this. This took me about fifteen minutes from start to finish and cost me under twenty.
This worked perfectly for my A/C unit.

Early in August, I came home from work to an incredibly hot & miserable home. Immediately I knew there was something wrong with my AC unit. After running to Walmart to purchase an emergency wall unit to keep the family cool, I started doing some research as to what the issue could be. Luckily, I came across the following video:

[...]

The video describe my issue perfectly. The compressor was making noise, but the fan wasn't moving at all. In the video, the instructor mentions that he was able to kick start the fan by spinning the blade to get it to work. Again, I was pleased to find that I was in the same boat. This indicated that the capacitor that starts the fan blade must be failing. Since the capacitor is a dual run capacitor, the part that keeps the fan blade in motion was still working (Awesome!). While I waited for the arrival of my new capacitor, I was able to keep my house cool by manually starting the fan blade. Keep in mind that you need to set your thermostat very low to prevent the it from turning the outdoor unit off. Being in the blazing Texas heat, it wasn't an issue to set the thermostat to 60 degrees Fahrenheit . Battling the heat, the temperature would only get down to about 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the night.

If your compressor is running, but manually starting it doesn't appear to work, turn the unit off both at the thermostat and at the breaker to the outside unit. Let all the power drain out of the capacitor (a good 30 minute wait if you are unfamiliar with how to safely discharge a capacitor), turn on the outdoor unit, turn on the indoor thermostat, then try manually starting the unit by spinning the blade with a long tool that will reach the blades through the safety cage. Be sure to spin the blades in the right direction.

When ordering a new capacitor, be sure that you match ALL of the numbers on your capacitor to the one you purchase; especially the 45/5 uf and the 370 Voltage.

What would've cost me a few hundred dollars through an A/C company, I was able to repair for less than $20 bucks. Needless to say, I am very pleased.
Almost made it a year. 2 days short. I looked at my order history and see I order new ones every July 6-18th. Last year I ordered this, and another one that claims to be made in USA. Not sure where this one was made, didn't look. I bought what could be shipped the quickest. I inspected this one and I could not see any buldging. I replaced it anyway with the USA made one ordered last year, and sure enough, capacitor was bad. I guess if you plan ahead its fine. Maybe my motor has some added load due to age. Anyhoo, I bought an off brand one in 2018, and it lasted one year as well. Not sure if they should be lasting longer or not. I live in NY, not down south. So AC is only in demand in summer months and a few times around the year. This part worked for me. Laste about one year.

Worked great and was delivered quickly.

Just a few words of caution for DIY's:
+ On your electrical pannel switch off your device; in my case I had to switch off the furnace too. If you are not sure, switch off everything.
+ Take plenty of pictures before disconnecting any wire.
+ Before touching the old capacitor, short it to make sure there is no residual charge; search uTube. If your old capacitor is dead, there will be no charge, but you don't know that for sure until you test it.
The capacitor on my central air conditioner unit had failed, which prevented the fan's motor from spinning up. Troubleshooted the issue and confirmed the capacitor had failed. Ordered this model, which met the specs required, received it today and was able to swap it out in less than 15 mins. Powered up the AC again and the fan was able to start up. Will report if the capacitor fails. (The one that was in the AC unit had been replaced less than 2 years ago with a different brand/model)
The capacitor is working fine.
Fast shipping. Worked perfectly. I replaced it on 10 years old heat pomp.
2 minutes install.
Verry happy!
