My fan would operate at only two speeds, I replaced the switch, problem not solved; internet search said that the capacitor was likely the problem. Replaced the capacitor and functionality is restored.

The fan would start on the first pull and I thought that was the fastest speed, I would pull again and get no change, pull again and it would slow down; I assumed I was missing the middle speed. After replacing the capacitor, I learned that I was apparently missing the fastest speed, because the fan really moves now and all speeds appear to work properly.

I assume the fan is a Harbor Breeze (from Lowe's). The original capacitor part is E185116, C61, 4.5uF/300V(red), 6uF/250V(brown), 5uF/250V(purple).
This part brought my fan back to life. I bought 2 and fixed 2 fans.

should have tested this when i first got it. had to replace the cap today and this cap is as useless as the bad one that lasted few years. return window was closed awhile back so wasted $$$. so make sure you test the values between the terminals. if no reading. send it back.
Our AC went out and it was because of the capacitor. This item was available when all the other stores that sold the item were closed over the weekend. It shipped fast and arrived when we needed it and it worked. Now our AC is working.
Our Ac stopped working. It would only blow out hot air. My husband was able to change the part and fix it with this item. Saved us big bucks! We might have to replace the Ac soon but I’m hoping we bought ourselves some time.
